Lab technician for a growing biotech company

Founded in 2012 and located in Copenhagen, Denmark, Biosyntia is a thriving biotech startup dedicated to delivering sustainable production processes for natural ingredients. Using proprietary technologies based on bioengineering and synthetic biology, we accelerate the development of microbial cell factories to a level previously unattainable.

We are further expanding our team and are looking for a qualified laboratory technician to manage our laboratory processes including safety, lab expansion, and assist hands-on with R&D projects. The candidate will be fully integrated into our dynamic team of ~20 talented people and is up for the challenge of effectively serving and managing a growing laboratory to ensure that it operates at its full capacity to support all R&D projects optimally.

Responsibilities and tasks:

Our current research facilities (~150 m<sup>2</sup>) are GMO class 1 certified and support ~20 scientists in the field of strain engineering, fermentation technology and analytical chemistry. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the researchers with various tasks including (but not limited to) preparation of media, reagents and stock solutions, introduction and training of personnel, strain- and sample archiving and operational workflow streamlining. Additionally, the person is expected to be involved in and assist hands-on with R&D projects.

Immediate areas of responsibility:

  • Manage the day-to-day activities within the laboratory; assure effective operation of equipment and availability of required supplies
  • Train all new personnel working in the lab and continuously enforce laboratory rules
  • Overseeing and maintaining key laboratory procedures by writing and updating lab protocols, media recipes and other standard operational procedures
  • Ensure all reagents and supplies are available when needed. This includes freshly prepared chemical reagents, media and stock solutions
  • Ensure that all glass- and plastic ware is properly washed, autoclaved and ready for use
  • Manage proper handling of biological and chemical waste
  • Ensure that the laboratory is cleaned/sanitized and kept in an orderly manner

 Qualifications of the ideal candidate:

  • Trained as a lab technician, bachelor’s, master’s or similar degree in science or related discipline
  • At least three years of experience from industry
  • Proven experience from performing work as a lab technician in a molecular biology laboratory working with microorganisms
  • Experience with automated liquid handling, bench scale bioreactors, and preparing samples for analytical chemistry (HPLC and LC-MS) is preferred
  • Trained in GMO lab health and safety
  • Experience in writing and updating
  • Experience in working in a GMP environment
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) skills in Danish and English
  • Well-organized with an interest in developing guidelines to facilitate more efficient procedures in the lab
  • Comfortable in the use of LIMS and/or other software based lab management tools

Will be at our research facilities at Fruebjergvej 3 at Østerbro in Copenhagen. You will be working together with ~20 other highly enthusiastic scientists (students, Ph.D.’s and post­docs) in a young and dynamic environment with a lot of fun and social activities.
